Near the end of her life (at age 108), Maggie said, "I can still help."
We can continue her work. There is a serious shortage of nurses now. Your gift for nursing scholarships can support health equity and the mission of Samuel Merritt University. Please make a gift today in memory of Maggie. 100% of your gift will directly benefit SMU students and is tax-deductible. Thank you!
Per Margaret's son, Paul Arveson:
My mother, Margaret Arveson, was graduated from Merritt with an RN in 1939. From there she served as a nurse during WW2 and ever since, around the country and finally in a convalescent hospital in Chula Vista, CA.
She passed away on August 12, 2023 at 108 years old. Up until the last few weeks she was mentally alert and as thoughtful as ever. She has been a resident of the center where she used to work. She still remembers her experience in training at SMU and she wished to encourage new nursing students and graduates.
Margaret had a compassionate heart -- shaped by her training at SMU -- and all her life she showed much love and care to everyone around her. As a result, she gathered many friends, and I thought it would be appropriate to suggest that these friends make a contribution to SMU for the support of nursing students. I appreciate a call to get some guidance on this, including the proper language and a mailing address for gifts in memory of Margaret Arveson.
