The Call to Give

Hello! We are Salma and Vishnupriya, third-year Podiatric Medical students at the California School of Podiatric Medicine. As Presidents of Alpha Gamma Kappa and California Podiatric Medical Student Association (CPMSA), we are thrilled to host the Winter 2022 CSPM sock drive to provide the #1 requested clothing item at free podiatry clinics. With winter approaching, it is pertinent that we help the unhoused and uninsured populations stay warm and avoid frostbite! Hosting a Sock drive is a winning combination in that we can supply much-needed care while spreading awareness!

Our goal is to raise $500 to purchase socks for free student-led podiatry clinics such as Dr. Tran’s Community Clinic, Berkley Suitcase Clinic, Clinica Tepati Clinic, Shifa Clinic, and Willow Clinic. To address the needs of the diverse patient population at each location, we plan to use the donated funds to purchase and supply compression socks, diabetic crew socks, and thermal socks!

Why Socks Matter

Compression Socks

Applies pressure to lower legs, helps to maintain blood flow and reduce swelling. Used for conditions that cause impaired blood flow in the lower extremities

Diabetic Crew Socks

Made without top elastic to provide a non-constricting fit that does not cut off circulation or restrict blood flow in Diabetic patients.

Thermal Socks

Made with fast-drying fabrics and moisture wicking capability to help retain body heat in freezing temperatures

"This underserved population often get wet out in the rain. Ideally the socks should wick quickly and be warm and comfy. If the socks wick quickly, they will be more comfortable and be less of a source for infection."

     Assistant Professor

     Associate Dean for Admission

     Director of Graduate Placement
